So London had it’s coldest November day in over 30 years yesterday. We braved frostbite in our little feet and headed out anyway because over east at the Sunday Upmarket, there was promise of delicious flame-grilled chicken satay, the only way to have good traditional satay.

My friend Van and her cousins set up their stall including not one but two old skool satay grills and despite the freezing conditions, cooked up a storm and fed passers-by with the bargain of Β£4 for 8 (eight! You can’t get that value for money anywhere else in London) satay sticks.

They’ve done it twice now and will most likely do it again so if you’re interested, follow my twitter feed and I’ll letcha know when it’s next on!

10 Thoughts on “bite sized: chicken satay @ the Sunday Upmarket

  1. yum chicken satays! and on a real open fire grill! i’ll definitely go when it’s on next!

  2. What a cute idea! And that’s a great price for satay sticks! πŸ˜€

  3. Eight skewers for Β£4 – bargain! I am so there next time I’m in London on a Sunday (after Xmas… please say they’ll still be there, pleeeese). That Mayalsian “night market” in Trafalgar Sq left me with a hankering for good satay.

The satay looks all yummy and suitably yellow (what is in that marinade – i am very curious). Just the ticket for a frost bound stroll.

  4. Oih the girls do look like they’re freezing! But those satay sticks look so delicious I’m sure it was worth it!

  5. They look fab- and my oh my- am not used to this cold at all

  6. Those look very close to the ones I had in the Malaysia earlier this year and a far cry from the dried out sticks you get in most restaurants. I still don’t understand how you can stay so skinny.

  7. jenny: I KNOW.. on a real open grill! I’ll update this blog when it’s next on πŸ™‚

Lorraine: Isn’t it? VAN – you guys need to bump up the price! πŸ˜‰

The Grubworm: The Malaysian Night at Trafalgar Square was a nightmare I can’t wait to forget! These satays are much better than those anyway and no 45 min queues. Will let you know when it’s next on!

Maria: Haha yeah, was FREEZING on Sunday. But totally worth it!

Tori: Rug up! It’s snowing today πŸ˜€

mealsinheels: YES they are cooked in the traditional way, on an open satay grill with coal and fire. Can’t get the real taste any other day! Haha maybe I simply dress well πŸ˜‰

  8. Mmmm what a neat idea, and those look lush! Happy to hear you had a great time with friends, and food as always! πŸ™‚

  9. A big thank you Cat for coming down on Sun xx Will def let u know when the next one is:) xxxxx
