If you’re in Brisbane on a Saturday morning and the sun is a-shining, drive on down to West End Markets on Montague Road. It’s an eclectic mix of food, fashion and all kinds of odd things and definitely worth some wandering around. Last Saturday we did just that and not only did we pick up some cheap fruits and veg, I got me a jar of macadamia nut BUTTER.

OMG. I tasted some at the stall and died on the spot. I bought a jar but my dad says I can’t open it until I’m back in London. But WHY?! I want to rub it all over my face it’s so damn delicious.

*Sigh*

Anyway. West End Markets… where you’ll find stunning arrays of fresh flowers…

And fashion… mostly t-shirts and rather hippie looking gear but still…

Fresh seafood! Crabs, prawns, you name it they got it…

And fruits (under pretty coloured tarps) as far as the eye can see. Pineapple’s in season now but you just wait til mango season… the whole place will be steaming with the sweet aroma of Queensland’s finest Bowen mangoes… *love*

You’ll also find a man with a funny chicken hat. Selling strawberries. It’s ok, on further investigation, I found he also sells organic eggs from his own farm…

And you can even pick up pet accessories. Like sunnies for your dog. Why not, right?

There’s also a huge food section, which contains an obligatory German sausage stall. Because what market doesn’t sell German sausage?

And these curry puffs… ARE THE BEST. Period.

I think you’ll find that you’ll leave West End Markets rather content. Like me, here with my macadamia nut butter from the Coolibah Plantation stall. 300 grams for AU$8. Is that expensive? I don’t even know. I don’t even care.

I am clearly recovered from my surgery, no? Definitely. Am already piling the weight back on 😀

  1. And so, WHY? Why wouldn’t your dad let you open it? Is it a test?
I can’t get over the size of the Eucalyptus leaves in that bouquet!!
And what a gorgeous sky! Looks like you had FUN shopping there.
    Keep getting well, Sweetie.

  2. Great to hear that you’re up and about. A spot of Australian market going (AND MANGOES), surely are just the things to help speed the recovery?

  3. OMG macadamia nut butter? I would so like to try this! Really glad to hear you’re making a speedy recovery!

  4. Linda: I actually don’t know! He just insisted I didn’t open here… and you know, being a good daughter and all, I listened 😉

Tori: The sunshine and good food definitely helps speed up my recovery!

Sarah: It’s so delish! Way yummier than ye olde peanut butter for sure! 🙂

  5. Oh man, the blue skies in the first photo totally makes me wish I lived in Australia. Though I suspect I could not handle the heat. Grass is always greener. 😛
