There were a couple of weeks in March when I was recovering from surgery but hadn’t started working yet that I would comfortably label The Most Boring Weeks Of My Life. It’s amazing how empty my days seemed when I was home 24 x 7; I devoured the crappiest books off my parents’ bookshelf, I watched The Bold & The Beautiful daily (childhood memories), discovered TMZ (LOVE!) and I hung onto my online life like it depended on it. Well, my sanity surely did.

I replied to all emails immediately, in full and in earnest. I turned my Google chat status to “online” – this never happens, I’m always “busy” because I don’t know why, time is money? – I signed into MSN chat and get this, I even logged onto Facebook chat. I shit you not, up until then, I didn’t even know Facebook had a chat function!

I was so bored I even started reading spam emails. Oh yes, yes I did.

My mama’s gonna be so proud of me! I finally made my very first Malaysian kueh, all by my very self. And they turned out super cute and rather tasty! What more could I want? Sometimes we have to be grateful for the big things in life. Like winning a holiday. Sometimes we have to be grateful for the small things in life. Like being able to see, smell, touch, talk… just being. Sometimes, we have to be grateful for the things we often aren’t grateful for. Like our parents.

Other times, we have to be grateful for the value-adds that life throws at us. Like having a neighbour who bakes amazing things and shares them with me. These are Su-yin’s easter sugar cookies, beautifully decorated by hers-truly. So delicious! If she gets around to posting a recipe, I’ll link to it from here.

Be grateful. Happy Easter. Peas out.

So this is how the story goes: I am always slow in following trends. It doesn’t matter if the trend is in fashion, food or the latest fandangle gadgets (note: I am yet to own my first iPhone, let alone an iPhone version 4 meaning it’s been around for at least 4 years, and the idea of owning an iPad – version 2! – is yet to even incubate in my little head, so you can bet that when the whole craze is over, I will be there buying my iFirst) I am just slow to catch on. Period.

Kind of like how I finally got around to having a Meatwagon burger about three decades after everyone else.
