black pepper crab

Isn’t it always the same with holidays? They seem like eons away, and you count and you sleep and you count sleeps, and after longer than eternity times infinity, they finally arrive! And then you go, and before you know it, it’s over. GAH. I hate post holiday blues. I know it was only four days, but four days was enough for me to relax, forget about work and… gain a couple of kilos.

The kilo-gaining started on Friday evening, about two hours after we arrived. My fabulous colleagues booked us into Long Beach at Dempsey, an eating-drinking entertainment complex in town. She’d already ordered when we arrived so I just sat back, relaxed and enjoyed the seafood extravaganza ride…

razor clams

garlic pepper prawns

kangkung (morning glory) with belachan (chilli paste)

chilli crabs

I love my chilli crabs. LOVE. And though Long Beach is more famous for their black pepper crab, I’d still side with chilli crabs any day, especially when it comes with gallons of gloopy delicious gravy and fried man tau (bread) to scoop it all up with!

crispy baby squid

bean curd with fish floss

black glutinous rice with ice cream

Everything, even the bean curd, was absolutely delicious. I’m not surprised given that Long Beach supposedly serves the “best” seafood in Singapore, even voted by the locals. After dinner at Long Beach, wander over to Red Dot Brewhouse just next door, with a fantastic micro-brewery onsite and an amazing outdoor beer garden, lit up by magical lanterns scattered throughout the trees.

I had a great night with the girls from our Singapore office. And I think we had a little too much fun with a polaroid camera 🙂

8 Thoughts on “Singapore seafood extravanganza! Long Beach @ Dempsey

  1. I really wished we tried the crab in Singapore…esp the Black Pepper Crab. We just rang out of time and tummy room.

Looked so delicious! I’m missing Singaporean food so thanks for the post, feel like I was there 🙂

  3. Chilli crab is probably my favourite Singapore dish, but where were the cereal prawns? You know how anxious I get on behalf of my foodie pals!

  4. Oh wow everything looks delicious!

  5. Miss Piggy: I liked the chilli crabs better than black pepper but lots of people like black pepper. You should def try the crab next time!

Mark: I know! Now I am missing it too!!!

Mr Noodles: I KNOWWWW. I wanted to have cereal prawns but apparently these garlicky prawns were the restaurant’s speciality so we had that. It was good though!

    Nic: It certainly was!

  6. I love the black pepper at long Beach, it’s a bit heavy in the spice for me – I normally prefer chilli crab like you as well 🙂

  7. Thanks for sharing this post. Everything is looking very delicious. I want to taste all of it. Looking forward to your next post.
