Mostly, I don’t really miss being in London. Like today for example, when it’s winter here in Sydney and it’s 20°C and it’s summer in London with a top of 17°C. You see what I mean? But what I do miss about London is the wonderful friends that I made there and all the fun times we had. Like this food on sticks party, which has inspired so many other sticks parties across the interwebs 🙂

Really, it’s just such a fun and easy idea and totally saves on washing up cutlery!

Last week, my friends Mags and Babs threw one such food on sticks party.  Mags is a bit of a whiz in the kitchen, Babs “directs”. Either way, the results are always delicious and I’m not one to decline an invite to any of their food parties.

My contribution was white chocolate rocky road on sticks. I never realised how stupidly easy it is to make rocky road. Adapted from a Not Quite Nigella recipe, you basically melt chocolate, add your bits and reset the chocolate. Voilà! What’s more, you can add whatever bits you want, so there’s no longer a need to go buy Cadbury Fruit & Nut. Imma make mah own.

What else was on the menu?

salad (cucumber, tomato, carrot) on sticks; brie wrapped in prosciutto on sticks (top left of this photo)

bocconcini, tomato and basil on sticks

roasted vegetables on sticks

chicken satay… on sticks obviously

meatballs on sticks… my favourite!
There were also mini burgers on sticks but they came late and I didn’t get a pic 🙁

chocolate covered strawberries and mandarin pieces on sticks

hot chocolate on sticks

Yes you read right. Mags even sourced us hot chocolate on sticks! The idea is to heat up some milk and you stir away with the chocolate spoon. The chocolate gradually melts into the milk and there you have your hot chocolate. Innovative (or money wasting) or what?

Let me know if you’ve also had a food on sticks party!

White chocolate rocky road… on sticks!
450 grams white chocolate
300 grams French vanilla almonds (or any crunchy nut)
175 grams marshmallows (I used Pascal’s marshmallows)
180 grams chocolate coated dried strawberries (optional. I won’t include next time)
Paddle pop sticks if you’re making them on sticks!
  1. Line a 21cm x 21cm square tin or tray with baking paper. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, melt the white chocolate over a boiling pot of water, ensuring the bowl doesn’t touch the water. Stir until melted.
  3. Remove from heat and add the almonds, marshmallows and whatever else you like and stir!
  4. Pour into prepared tray/tin. If you are making rocky road on sticks, place the sticks now.
  5. Let cool to room temperature. Cover and refrigerate.
  6. Remove from fridge after about an hour and cut into pieces. Place back in fridge and should keep for a week (but it won’t last that long ;))
Makes 16-20 pieces (depending on size of the pieces)
