sashimi appetiser

I had a long week last week. Early mornings, late nights, six hours of back to back calls on Valentine’s night. Yep, it was one of those weeks. When the clock struck 6pm on Friday, I was happy enough to just go home and sleep, but Panu suggested out of the blue that he take me to dinner at Saké Restaurant instead.

Who am I to complain? I certainly married the right guy! 😀

wagyu new style: thin slices of wagyu beef slightly seared with hot oil & finished
with ginger, chives & yuzu so
y

salt & pepper tofu: crispy fried tofu pieces with chilli & spring onion

nasu dengaku: grilled eggplant with light and dark miso pastes

tonkatsu cups: 4 pieces of panko-fried pork belly & spring onion bites,
served in lettuce cups with mustard miso and Japanese barbeque sauce

gindara saikyo-yaki: caramelised, miso marinated silver cod

the bonsai: nashi pear custard with chocolate soil & baby sorrel

ps. all photos taken with iPhone again. Surprise dinner = no camera on me but hey, I am really becoming a rather lazy food blogger these days anyway. Blame instagram, aiight?

14 Thoughts on “impromptu dinner at Saké Restaurant, the best kind

  1. Miso cod looks slightly burnt, just the way I like it. As for salt and pepper tofu, Wife and I have this thing about picking it up using our chopsticks and popping them into our mouths without breaking their skin. Mmm…

  2. Hehe I know bloggers that have given up their blog to purely instagram! I always go for nasu dengaku-how was theirs?

  3. Everything looks super tasty! Tell me about how having an iPhone makes things so much easier (and lazier :P)

  4. Oh the tofu looks really good and crispy!

  5. London Chow: I thought you were going to say that you didn’t like it burnt but haha I like it a little burnt too! I probably also like it with a bit of sauce but the marinade here was fantastic. The tofu were good too!

Lorraine: good! I like the white miso (sweet) better than the dark miso which is more salty. I always order nasu dengaku wherever i go 🙂

Sherrie: I know haha it’s terrible, isn’t it?

jenny: It was really good. Super fresh, light and crispy. Kind of like a good agedashi tofu without the sauce 🙂

  6. One of my favourite restaurants! I always order the jalapeño kingfish sashimi & the dumplings here – could just continue to eat and eat and eat because everything is so delicious!

  7. So nice of Panu to take you out 🙂 Sake opened up in Melbourne last year but I have yet to go try it ~

I get lazy too cuz I instagram a lot more but still like doing the write up for a post 😀

  8. Awwww, I miss eating out in Oz, that looks damn good. And those photos are pretty good for a phone aren’t they? in fact, the iPhone has pretty much fulfilled all my needs for instant photography. I only take the camera when I want to really concentrate on taking pics.

  9. I did love Sake but found it pricey for what you get. Delicious nonetheless though

  10. i’ve always wanted to go here but it seems a bit too pricey and we’ll probably end up ordering way too much. everything looks so delicious!
