nasi lemak with beef rendang

The flourish of Malaysian restaurants in Sydney over the past few years has been fantastic for those of us who can eat Malaysian every day and never get sick of it. My favourites around town include Petaling Street, Mamak, Malacca Straits and Alice’s Makan. I also recently blogged about PappaRich, which I’m still undecided on. Well, here’s another goodie: Sedap, at Eastgardens and Chatswood Westfield (and more locations around Sydney CBD).

I’ve been to Sedap Eastgardens a couple of times. The food is pretty good, and I’ve even taken away boxes of beef rendang (photographed above with the nasi lemak) for dinner. The chee cheong fun (steamed rice flour rolls served with sweet soy, chilli and shrimp paste) is really good, as is the har mee. Char kuay teow was ok, though I still prefer it at Petaling Street (well cooked, including clams)  and Alice’s Makan (best ‘wok hei‘ but no clams).

Earlier today I met Rita at Sedap Chatswood, as usual under the guise of our boys having a play date but who are we kidding, we just like to eat together 🙂 I tried the assam laksa – the flavour was authentic, pity about the small serve. Rita had the chicken rice which I believe was good. We toyed with the idea of trying the ice kacang but headed outside for matcha froyo instead.

So yes, another good joint to sate my ongoing craving for Malaysian food! There’s a branch close to me at Broadway (just by Central Park) which I need to check out. Incidentally, PappaRich is also opening on Broadway. Can’t complain about the mass takeover by Malaysian joints in Sydney. I’m a happy camper 🙂
