noodle soups

Sydney, what the heck? Last week, we were boasting weather in the mid-20’s, kicking off our boots and quickly lashing on some polish on our hibernating toes so we could confidently flop around in our Havaianas. And this week? A measly 14 degrees celcius to call our own. Wet. Cold. Noodle. Soup. Need. Now.

The Monk

I love Rising Sun Workshop, that’s pretty much all I need to say about this. Their philosophy, their space, their people, their food. Gah, it’s the coolest little loved up community I’ve come across in a while. Kicked off as a crowd-funded communal workspace for motorbike enthusiasts, the RSW team still have their feet firming planted atop two wheels while serving up delicious ramen and great coffee.

As director and chef, Nick “the Word” Smith said, “we wanted to combine the three things we love – motorbikes, ramen and coffee.” And why the hell not?

ramen at Wagaya

Wow. It’s been a long time between posts. So long in fact that I had to work my brain hard to remember my website login. I don’t think I’ve ever gone this long without a post. pulled pork salad

You know a restaurant has really hit the jackpot when there’s a dish you always order and it never disappoints. When you recommend it to your friends, they end up always ordering it, and it never disappoints them either. In fact, you order it so much that even though you abso-fricking-lutely LOVE this dish, you haven’t blogged about the restaurant because you’re waiting to try other things so you can talk about more than one dish in your post.

Eventually you kind of give up and just blog the one dish. And here it is, West Juliett’s 12 hour pulled pork salad with fennel, sharp cabbage, apple, kohl rabi and parmesan.

fried chicken skin

In case you haven’t quite worked it out, what you’re looking at right there is a big plate of fried chicken skin. Fried. Chicken. Skin. I’m pretty sure they serve this in heaven, or if not then well you can find it at PappaRich in Chatswood. In fact, go to PappaRich and get the fried chicken skin because honestly? It was the only thing I really liked there.
