Dinner by Heston Blumenthal was always on my bucket list of places to go before we left London. But – and I don’t know how this happened – there was a momentary lapse in my super-crazy-organised-ness and somehow I never got around to making a reservation. Enter Su-yin, who aside from feeding me a whole lot, also became my saviour on this front. She made a reservation, didn’t want it, and hey look! I’m having dinner at Dinner!

It’s official. Well, it’s been official for about six months now but due to things like work and our lease and all kinds of grown up things, I haven’t been able to talk about it. But now I can! In just over six weeks, Panu and I are officially packing up and moving back home to Sydney! For realz. I’m so excited about this. I’ve missed home and you know, all my friends are having babies and my brother has an 8 week old daughter and I seriously just want to go drown myself in folds of baby fat!

But I wouldn’t leave y’all here without a wonderful slice of Australia, even more wonderful than yours truly 😉 A couple of months ago, Clerkenwell unveiled a little café called St Ali, an export from Melbourne and reputedly one of the best.

There are good reasons why I’d never gone to Polpetto. For one, I never want to eat dinner flat on 6pm. For another, they don’t take reservations for 7pm which, for the record, is my ideal time for dining out because you get there, get settled, browse the menu, order and bam! Dinner is served at 7.30pm. Yeah, control freak much? 😉

Anyway, that’s why I hadn’t ever gone to Russell Norman’s much talked about Polpetto because the one time I did want to eat before 6pm? I went to Spuntino because Peanut Butter And Jelly Ice Cream Sandwich. That is all.

The first time I went to Flat Planet, all I had was a tea. But the fabulous ladies behind the counter were making these deliciously topped flatbreads and offered us some sample slices. I had one taste and fell madly deeply in love.

The concept is unassumingly simple – they make their dough using organic English spelt flour rolled into oblong dough-plates and top them with a variety of ingredients, creating some that are hot (oven baked) and some that are not and some that are breakfast inspired! Seriously, what’s not to like about something akin to a mini pizza, except a billion times tastier? Nothing, that’s what.

In a perfect world, every long weekend would be like this. No, let’s live on the edge. In a perfect world, every regular run-of-the-mill two day weekend would be like this! But you know, I’m not really a live on the edge kind of person, as dashing and romantic as it sounds. I don’t do whirlwind weekends away… well, not over two days 😉

But you know what’s totally do-able and equally as relaxing? A weekend getaway in Londontown (or you know, wherever you live). Stash yourself away in a luxurious hotel. Explore that side of town like you’ve never seen it before. Drink champagne. Eat lots. Enjoy.

That is exactly what I did last weekend.

You know what’s pathetic? What’s really pathetic? I’ll tell you what. It’s Friday night and I’m out having dinner with friends. No, that’s not the pathetic part. We have dinner at Cay Tre, before moving onto Candy Cafe for dessert. I have a matcha ice cream smoothie. That’s definitely not the pathetic part.

The pathetic part starts when we’re done with dessert. We’re too full to have another dessert (which was part of the grand plan but alas, our eyes were much greedier than our tummies) so we wander through Soho and look, just look at food that we could be consuming.

Sad, right?
