happy Friday! lunch @ Makanai

I know I’ve been a little bit slack with posting lately. My consistent three-posts-per-week has gradually dropped to two, and if I didn’t come up with this impromptu post today, it would have been one this week. Not that I feel pressured to post. Blogging is actually down time for me, and something I “do” to “relax”.

Yes, I unwind from being on my laptop all day… by being on my laptop all day. True story.

bite sized: a pretty darn good burger @ The Burger Joint

Next hit up on Project Burger: The Burger Joint in Darlinghurst.

Don’t be fooled. This place might look like a shabby little hole in the wall, but what comes out of them is actually pretty awesome. With a menu scrawled on the wall, they offer combos to suit all tastes; burger? cheese burger? cheeseburger with gherkin? salad anyone? They even have an option to customise your own burger, condiments and all. WOAH.

is the Rockpool Bar burger really as good as they say?

There has been a lot of talk about the Rockpool Bar’s wagyu burger. Ever since Panu and I started our search for Sydney’s best burger, we’ve had numerous recommendations for many a burger joint, but none as much as this burger. We’d actually tried to order this burger last November when dining in the restaurant area, but alas, we weren’t allowed, so now three months later, we’ve finally done it.

And what did I think?

Well. Three things.

dinner at Wagaya before... ROXETTE!

dragon roll

I had originally started this post by talking about Roxette and how much I absolutely worship their awesome Swedishness, and I even included a link to their website. And then I realised what a douche I was being.  A link to Roxette? Puh-lease. How dare I insult their total famous-ness, like you guys wouldn’t know who they were. E.v.e.r.y.o.n.e. knows who Roxette are.

So I’ll talk about the dinner we had before seeing Roxette instead.

The Local Taphouse: seriously, how TALL is this burger?

If I was searching for the tallest burger in Sydney, this monstrosity from The Local Taphouse in Darlinghurst would have won hands down. I mean, just look at it. Look. At. It. The beef patty on its own is already like, I don’t know for sure but I’m going to say it’s 200-250 grams worth of beef there, and then they top it with the two hugest onion rings to have ever graced this planet. Puts them HJ’s onion rings (which I love) to shame.

Jazz City Diner: the burgers aren't pretty but they taste good!

Have you ever seen a square patty? Is it to maximise logistics efficiency, like how they make square watermelons? Well, I for one hadn’t ever seen a square patty, not until I had a burger at Jazz City Diner last Friday night.

And honestly, I don’t care if they make their patties in an eight petalled flower mould, because those patties were effring delicious :D
