Plum Valley: the mystery that is Chinese fine dining. And yes, it's still a mystery.

Chinese fine dining, hey? We at thecattylife are not unfamiliar with this topic. We’ve been to Kai Mayfair and well, yes, we’ve been to Kai Mayfair. We are not unfamiliar with the topic but we are still much confused. Although we were bedazzled by Kai Mayfair’s superb service and quality food, we are still concerned about having to spend more than say £20 a head for Chinese (and that is already a lot). We don’t understand where our moneyz is going and still think that Chinese food is really just that. Chinese food.

We are especially confused by that restaurant in Chinatown, Plum Valley, who calls themselves “Chinese fine dining” but they don’t even have a website. What the heck fine dining restaurant doesn’t have a website?

And yes, we’re doing this post in third person. And plural.

I came, I saw, I ate and then I ate some more: how it went down in Hong Kong

There’s so much I want to say about our trip to Hong Kong. But given that you don’t actually really want to read any of it, and that I don’t believe in sequels and three-quels, I’m just gonna summarise a whole bunch of stuff, show you some photos and be done with it.

Granted, this is still going to be one mammoth post and here goes…

How it went down in Hong Kong!

PINCHITOtapas: out & about with @vachonline, the man about town

So I have this friend. And when people ask how we know each other, I always say well, he’s a friend of a friend. In actual fact, he’s my friend’s ex. But my friend has said that as long as I love her more, which of course I do, infinitely more, I can be friends with him.

So, Michael, you are my friend.

Leong's Legends: New Years Day, when the world was asleep

New Years Day. The clock strikes midday and the world is asleep. Well, not everyone’s asleep I suppose given that our planet revolves on an axis that bends the time continuum (it hasn’t quite mastered space yet, unlike Hiro Nakamura). Someone, somewhere, is awake.

For someone like me, someone who happens to know a lot of people who live on the other side of the planet, the bending of the time continuum is a right pain in the behind. This is especially so for me, because I have a handful of friends who don’t seem to grasp the concept of timezones.

Time. Zones. That 4pm in the afternoon for you, is not 4pm in the afternoon for me. Not even close.

*silent vent*

But I digress. It’s midday on New Years Day, a new decade, 2010. The world London is asleep and I’m hungry.

four seasons of roast duck goodness. oh yes, I could totally live with that

roast duck with vegetables; sizzling bean curd with mixed seafood

I’ve been wanting to blog about Four Seasons and their roast duck for so long that you wouldn’t even believe me if I told you. I’ve been wanting to blog about them since before I even had a food blog (which is a little bit like before my life began really, isn’t it?) and in fact, they were one of the reasons for me starting a food blog, because I wanted to share all the awesomeness with every body.

What’s been the hold up? Well. The thing is. Every time we go to Four Seasons, we order the same thing. Roast duck. And I’ve been waiting ever so patiently all this time to “collect” more photos so I could share a little bit more of their menu… but sadly, I don’t even know what’s on the rest of the menu because I never even look. Ever.
