I don’t pass judgement on the things I eat based on whether they’re healthy or not. I simply eat things that I like, be it quinoa or burgers or um, an ice cream filled Krispy Kreme donut. If something’s healthy, I suppose in the deep recesses of my mind, it gets an extra brownie point, but in all honesty, I don’t ever eat something “just because it’s healthy”.
Life is too short, people.
So when what you want is also healthy, well hotdamn, two magical worlds collide, resulting in an explosion of confetti and Care Bear love.
I eat these chocolate protein powerballs like they are dessert. Seriously. They kind of taste like rum balls without the rum, which if you’re like me and you never liked the rum anyway, is basically just fricking delicious chocolate balls. They’re also super easy to make (five minutes, honest). I made a batch Sunday morning. They were gone Sunday night.
And so I made a new batch Monday. It’s that good. And oh yeah, they’re healthy too.
Recipe adapted from The Healthy Chef.
Chocolate protein power balls |

180g raw almonds 30g protein powder (preferably chocolate flavoured) 8 fresh dates, pitted (I recommend Medjool dates, which you can get from most grocery and health food stores) 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder 1/2 tablespoon natural vanilla extract 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon dessicated coconut for rolling |

Makes about 18 1-inch sized balls. |
Chocolate!!! That is healthy!!! Winning at life! 😀
These look and sound really good. Love anything with dates!
I make a simpler version for my lil fussy eater with just dates, walnuts and cocoa powder. Am constantly amazed at how chocolatey these things are!
These look amazing! Hubby grew up on something similar and they’d have it for birthday treats. I tried one once and it was so good! 😀
Sherrie: Haha YES winning at life!!
jenny: Dates are awesome, especially these Medjool dates. so juicy and sweet.
Corsage: That sounds good enough – they really are more like a chocolate dessert, aren’t they?
Lorraine: These are so healthy you can totally eat them outside of bdays!
OMG i have chocolate protein powder, and it tastes like milk shake…SO making these
This recipe is amazing
Thank you! I’m about to make another batch now 🙂
Made these on the weekend. They’re pretty good. Have you noted down its nutritional information per chance? (I’m too lazy to calculate it myself….)
I haven’t.. and don’t even know how to do that, to be honest?! To me, because there’s no sugar and any bad stuff, it just falls into the “healthy” category.. 🙂
Err, well…I can’t argue with that. I like your train of thought!
Nice recipe. I used coconut water instead of normal water. Yum 🙂
