What can I say? Dinner at Momofuku Seiõbo for my birthday was hands down the best present I could have received. Well, except for this chocolate tree, but you know, different. I’m a big fan of the Momofuku brand. I’ve done my little write up about the Momofuku trifecta (I’m yet to go to Má Pêche) and my big write up about Momofuku Ko (there’s no other way to do it really, for a meal that changed my perception on creativity and “orgasmic” coupled with an irritating no-photo policy).

All I can say is… thank goodness Seiõbo allowed photos.

Ramen in salt flavoured pork soup with roast pork, shallots & sesame seeds

I’ve been wanting to go to Ryo’s for a long long long time. But you know, it’s on the other side of the bridge and if there’s one thing I am, it’s lazy. So, really, it’s all my own fault. Two weeks ago, I finally organised a bunch of us to go. We arrived at 1.30pm and lo’ and behold, the rumours were true: not just that there would be a queue but scarily, they would run out of broth. And sure as heck, they ran out of broth.

So this time around, we went at midday. Before midday even. There was still a queue but I’ll be damned if they ran out of broth.

Cone Bay barramundi with spanner crab and prawn tortellini, sweet corn and thyme butter

It had been raining all week. I prayed to the weather gods (or maybe I just asked the Café Sydney staff) to please make it not rain today, and look at the service. They not only made it not rain, today was the quintessential Sydney winter’s day – clear blue skies, a light breeze and 20 degrees. A perfect way to spend lunch with a colleague from the US, and his birthday to boot!

6: crispy scaled snapper, smoked potato puree, calamari crackling

Last Saturday night, Panu took me out to dinner. It was one of those no reason treats (the best of all kinds of treats) just because I am wonderful me, I guess 😉 Anyway, I’ve been wanting to check out Gastro Park for a while. I’d heard so many brilliant things about their weird and quirky food. For me, an enjoyable meal (and one worth paying lots of mulah for) is not always about quantity. I’m most impressed by things that intrigue me, surprise me, things that make me smile.

And Gastro Park most certainly did.

I first had one of these 18 months ago in NYC, and I am still talking about it. So when KFC decided to bring back The Double (as it is known in the land of Oz) just for today and tomorrow, I did a little happy dance.

For realz.

There are a lot of haters out there about KFC and this particular breadless burger, but I don’t really give a flying fluck. I don’t eat KFC every day (twice a year maybe) so if I choose to clog my arteries with two luscious pieces of fried chicken, sandwiching a slice of bacon, cheese and oozy BBQ sauce, so be it.

BIG LOVE. Go get yours quick!
