Saturday was a bit of an extremes kinda day. We bought some groooooovy bright red retro bar stools for the apartment (win!) then ate some pretty good Malaysian food for lunch (win!) and then… some biatch went and ran into the side of my car (lose). Don’t worry, Panu and I are both fine but my Marvin! My near-new Marvin. He’s now all injured down the left side and has to go off to car hospital to get all fixed up.

I just want to say before I go and ruin everything, I actually really really like Hoochie Mama. Because, I mean, what a groovy name for a café, right?? Ok, that’s not the reason. I like them because they have an awesome breakfast menu, they have loads of outdoor seating and actually, they have loads of seating everywhere so you always get a spot. And the food is very good.

But having just had Bill’s sweet corn fritters on the weekend, I don’t know what I was thinking going and ordering sweet corn fritters when I met an old friend for brunch yesterday. I mean, there is no comparison to Bill’s utter brilliance. Period.

Almond & white chocolate parfait with roasted strawberries

So, my night at Felix Bistro started off rather oddly. I arrived at 7.30pm to meet some friends for dinner. I knew I was the first to arrive, so I thought it was a little odd when the maitre d’ said that my friends were already there. Ok, you know, maybe they did get there before me. Apparently superhuman speed and power is not beyond all of us. He led me to a table, where a couple were having a lovely, quiet, romantic meal.

“Here are your friends,” the maitre d’ announced and pulled out a seat for me.

I looked at the couple, who had paused mid-shovelling-food-into-their-faces. They stared at me.

Bill Granger is famous the world over. So famous he is, in fact, that when word got out that a Bill’s opened in London’s Covent Garden, our hearts skipped a beat thinking that the famous ricotta hotcakes had migrated their way to the northern hemisphere. But… much to the huge disappointment of all, Bill’s in Covent Garden was not an off shoot of Bill Granger’s famous Bill’s restaurants, but just another café, albeit, I have to admit, also a rather good one.

But there were no ricotta hotcakes.
